Born in Hong Kong, Chan Nga-man’s works have been performed in various places including Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, Korea and the U.S. Her composition Command in the Rain entered the final of the New Generation 2015, performed by Chinese Music Virtuosi, and was broadcast on RTHK Radio 4. The same piece has been selected for Music from the Heart 2016 and performed by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. In 2017, her music was selected for the World Harp Congress 2017 Hong Kong and Music from the Heart. She participated in the Nief-Norf Music Festival 2015 in the U.S., where her piece In June was performed; it was later presented at the International Composer Rostrum in Budapest in 2018. In 2021, Chan's Chinese ensemble music was performed on various digital platforms, commissioned by Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble and HKCG, supported by ADC Project "Arts Go Digital". Her piece Winter Comes and Summer Goes was broadcast on RTHK31. In recent years, Chan has developed a passion for conducting. She was one of the 20 candidates selected for the International Competition for Young Conductors, Maestro Borislav Ivanov, in Bulgaria and was a candidate of Orchestra’s Conductor Competition in Romania in 2024.
Chan obtained a double-major undergraduate degree in Music and Media & Cultural Studies from the University of Hong Kong. In recognition of her outstanding academic achievements, Chan received the HKU Worldwide Exchange Scholarship for study at Queen’s University, Kingston. She was also awarded the Hong Kong Children’s Choir Scholarship and the Bernard van Zuiden Music Prize. Chan is now the member of the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH) and the Hong Kong Composer’s Guild.
