Chen Yin

Chen Yin is currently Principal Pipa and leader of the plucked-string section of the China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra; a National Class One Performer; a visiting professor at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, Yunnan Arts University and the Xianshun College of Pipa; and Vice President of both the Pipa Professional Committee of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society and the Pipa Society under the auspices of the Chinese Musicians’ Association.


As a composer, Chen has many works to his credit. They include the original compositions Dance of the Mountains, Melodies of the Mountains, Song of the Autumn Moon, Spring Tide, Journey to the Grassland, A Lyric on the West Wind and Look Back in Awe (co-composed with Mo Fan). Arrangements include The Sun Shines on Taxkorgan (new arrangement after the version by Chen Gang), A Trip to the Ancient Tea Horse Road (based on Wu Hua’s composition), Ashima – The Narrative Poem (based on the work co-composed by Yi Ke, Zhang Baoqing and Yi Jiayi), and Riding on the Current (after the original full score by Mo Fan).  


Chen’s publications include the book Chen Yin Pipa Spectrum, and DVD albums Gold Finger: Chinese Pipa by Chen Yin, Riding on the Current, and A Lyric on the West Wind.
