Hua Wenyao

Born in Shenzhen, China, in 2001, Hua Wenyao (William) specialises in contemporary music composition, film scoring, and music production. He obtained a master’s degree in Composition from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, studying under the guidance of Prof. Mak Clarence and Dr. Cheung Pui-shan. Earlier, he explored diverse musical expressions with Dr. Chen Yeung-ping at the South China Normal University. He currently serves as a faculty member at the School of Music, Guangzhou College of Applied Science and Technology.


William has won awards for his scores and music production in competitions and has contributed to numerous multimedia and film soundtracks. His works have been published in music journals, broadcast on RTHK and presented at the Hong Kong International Film Art Exhibition. His multimedia works have been showcased at the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Amphitheatre. He has also collaborated with organisations such as the Hong Kong Toolbox Percussion, Brassdivo, the Academy Symphony Orchestra, the Academy Chinese Orchestra, the Academy Concert Band and the South China Normal University Chorus. His compositions span orchestral, Chinese orchestral, wind ensemble, chamber, electronic, and film music. Notable works include Overture: Rainway Railway, Purdue, the Lord of Flaming Face, Tin Hau's Tunes, Second Stealer from Minute Minuet, Meow in Mirror, and Flickers of the Night Don't Sing. Throughout his studies, he has received several scholarships, including the Doming Lam Scholarship, the Parsons Outstanding Composition Student for Creative Music Scholarship and the Lions Music Charity Foundation Scholarship.
