Li Alex Kelvin is a young Taiwanese composer and the current Creative Director of SENJIN MUSIC. He holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Architectural Studies from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he also minored in music. His journey into composition began during his academic years, initially self-taught and later guided by composer Liu Chih-Hsuan.
Alex’s music is known for its exquisite and refreshing quality, uniquely imbued with Taiwanese warmth and often incorporating inspiration from the alternative beauty and natural sensations of Taiwan. His representative work, Voyage, zhongruan concerto, was awarded Second Prize and the Best Taiwanese Composer Award at the 2021 Hsinchu International Youth Composition Competition, where it was also selected as the first prize by renowned composers Wang Dan-Hong and Law Wai-Lun. His chamber piece The Wayfarer of the Mountain and City was premiered by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and received the Orchestra Members’ Favorite Work Award. In recent years, Alex has been commissioned for new works by virtuosi and orchestras, including the liuqin concerto Firelight, the dizi concerto Whale Island, the suona concerto Detour to the Mountains, and the orchestral piece Azure Sky. Alex began his musical training in violin and erhu. He formerly served as concertmaster of the TCO Youth Orchestra and principal zhonghu of the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra. He currently leads the erhu II section of the Hsinchu City Youth Chinese Orchestra.
