Yang Zhengping is currently a professor at Kaili University, Chairman of the Qiandongnan Musicians Association, a Provincial Representative Bearer of Lusheng tradition in Guizhou, a member of the Sheng Professional Committee of the Chinese National Orchestra Society, and an expert on the China National Arts Fund Expert Committee.
Passionate about Lusheng from an early age, he graduated from the Lusheng program at the Guizhou Provincial School of Arts, as well as Guizhou University and Guizhou Normal University. He studied under Lusheng educator Professor Yang Changshu and the legendary master Dong Dangan, who is widely regarded as the "Father of Modern Lusheng."
For many years, Yang has devoted himself to the preservation, promotion, performance, teaching, and academic study of Lusheng culture. He has received numerous honors, including the Chinese Government Award for Culture and Arts, the Wenhua Award for Arts Institutions, the Bronze Award in the solo performance category for Ethnic Minority Specialty Instruments at the 2nd National Chinese Ethnic Instrumental Music Competition, the Gold Award in the Lusheng category at the 1st "Golden Lusheng" International Ethnic Wind Instrument Competition, the First Prize in the Lusheng category at the 2nd Guizhou Professional Instrumental Music Competition, and Bronze Award in the solo performance category for Ethnic Minority Specialty Instruments at the 5th National Youth Ethnic Instrumental Music Competition. Additionally, he has been invited to perform and engage in cultural exchanges in over ten countries, including the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and South Korea. His Lusheng
performances have been recorded and released by the Dutch label Paradox.
In musical composition and instrument innovation, his notable work includes Love Song from the Countryside. He successfully developed improved 29-reed and 32-reed Lushengs, effectively addressing a longstanding limitation of the traditional instrument by making modulation between closely related and distantly related keys considerably more practical. Furthermore, he has published and released numerous academic papers and CD albums.
