Zhan Cong

Zhan Cong is a distinguished recitation artist and educationist. He has a sonorous voice, a delivery rich in emotions, earnestness and vividness. He has taught numerous students the art of recitation in schools all over Hong Kong.

He graduated from the People’s Liberation Army Academy of Art, where he studied Performance. He was later assigned to the Song and Dance Troupe of the Second Artillery Force, and worked for over a decade as solo singer, vocalist and actor in operetta and short plays. Upon leaving the position, he took up civilian posts and worked as a performer in various cultural activities. He won a following with his radio plays, poetry and prose recitations etc. on radio. He recited the epic poem The East Is Red in the eponymous music and dance spectacular, which featured a thousand performers on stage, at the Dr Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Guangzhou, China. It ran for more than one hundred shows and captured the heart of the audience both at home and abroad.

Zhan moved to Hong Kong in 1975 and joined a film studio after audition. He continued to appear in films, television, commercials and work as a voice actor. He has played numerous roles and accumulated lots of insights in performance. Although in 1997 he declared that he would retire, he has continued to participate in shows, and to teach the young in order to build a better foundation for Hong Kong.
